Just watch all of Sam's movies before 1980 their all westerns. Wild Bunch is the greatest movie ever made(ok, probably not) but it is. I think all of Peckinpah's movies are about not belonging in the world his characters inhabit and they know it, its not about redemption its about, Fuck it, this is who I am, out of time. Seek out "Meeks Cutoff". I'm not sure how good it is but it won't leave my memory. I could go on and on but really you have to go and watch Sam Peckinpah's movies. Frank Carey.
Far and away, in my book of course, the best western of all time is The Wild Bunch. If you can find it, get the directors cut. Peckinpah at his bloodiest!! The last 30 min. makes me cry.
❤️U too Josh, Happy Easter bro 🐥 Films you might like... Dollar for the Dead (Emilio Estevez) . The Last Outlaw (Micky Rourke) One Eyed Jacks(Marlon Brando) Geronimo (Joseph Runningfox) American Outlaws (Colin Farrell)
And, I agree with Lonesome Dove as favorite movie (and book as I've read it more than 20 times). Albeit, not the greatest story. The greatest is the story of man's redemption.
Break heart Pass with Charles Bronson , Valdez Is Coming with Burt Lancaster. The Missouri Breaks with Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando are some of my favorites .
"The Long Riders", I think the year of release was 1980. With the Carradine brothers and Stacy and James Keach, also Dennis and Randy Quaid. One of, if not, the Greatest Jesse James movies of all time....
In my opinion....
Another one which is up there is "Ride With The Devil", Released in 1999 With Tobey Maguire, among many other great actors in that movie....
Quick and the Dead is great fun

Tom Selleck made some great westerns; try Quigley Down Under.
Love you too Josh
Stocking Moon with Gregory Peck
The Last Hard Men with Heston
Oh! And Silverado.
...and Goin' South.
I'll come up with more I'm sure

A lessor known John Wayne film called Angel and the Bad man. Harry Carey is good as the sheriff also.

By far my favorite western was The Searchers with John Wayne
but my 2nd favorite that's somewhat unknown, is Chato's Land starring Charles Bronson
Now Books. my #1 all time favorite, and the book that me all into the Western genre is "To Tame a Land" by Louis L'Amour
